bullet  General Notes:

Born at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin, Steve was moved to Syracuse, New York as a baby and then back to Wisconsin as a five year old. As a youngster Steve attended the Campus school at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He graduated from Oshkosh High School, Oshkosh, Wisconsin in June of 1963; a BA in European History, University of Wisconsin in1967. He attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin for two years. Drafted in 1969, he applied for and got a deferment as a conscientious objector. Worked for Goodwill Industries and the Episcopal University Student center to satisfy the terms of the deferment. Following that he began to learn carpenter skills and hung out at Broom Street Theater in Madison where he met his wife-to-be, Cara McManis. They married and moved to Gary, Indiana where he worked as a carpenter and remodeler from 1974 - 1988. Cabinetmaker and supervisor, Closet Designs, 1988-1990, Owner Area Cabinets 1990-1993, Manager, Kit Ready Cabinets 1993-4, Carpenter Lee Construction Services 1994-1999. Project Manager and IT director of Lee Construction from 1999 until his retirement in October of 2013.

Steve grew up the son of an Episcopal priest and the youngest of three. Early interest in history led to a degree in history at the University of Wisconsin, but disenchanted with academics (and a lot of other things) he turned to working with his hands as a carpenter. A good knack for tools and how things work became a career of sorts. He bought a computer at the age of 48 to compile genealogy information, write web pages and get a general knowledge of computers and the internet. After retirement he continued work on genealogy and became a gardener, maintaining the garden that his wife Cara had begun about 1994.
