Anabel's mother died in the summer of 1869 when she was a year and a half old; her father remarried Mary Francis Gerry in 1870. Anabel and her older sisters were raised by her step-mother Mary. Anabel was close to her step-mother's sister, Sarah, who married James A Pepper of Mankato in 1875, when Anabel was 7 years of age.

She was living in Appleton, Wisconsin with her youngest son, William Spicer, Sr. when she died in 1942. She is buried in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato along side of her husband.
