bullet  Research Notes:

the Howland article in NGSQ 75 has her married to Daniel Wells.
There are two FaG memorials but https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/132740440/mary-smith seems to be the correct one, but has a marriage to Thomas Smith.

1941 Gen Mag of New Jersey article also has marriage to Daniel Wells citing
1)Hindshaw Vol 2, page 110 Salem MM 1704, 6,28.Daniel rocf Cape May; 1707, 6,25. Daniel rpd mcd
2) NJA 23:498; (will of Daniel abstract proves nothing except his wife's name Mary)
3) NJW: 269Q; WJD E:312 (West Jersey Deeds).

Most have first marriage to Daniel Wells, but second marriage to Thomas Smith is also in the which is argued in collaborate section "Grandmother of Noah Smith." -

"Grandmother of NOAH SMITH. Mary Allen was the daughter of JedediahAllen and Elizabeth Howland. She was the widow of Daniel Wells whodied in 1715. In "Smith, Grant, and Irons," a Family History, itstates the supposition that this Mary Allen Wells was the 2nd wife of"our" Thomas Smith, Sr. Mary Smith died shortly after the birth of herson, Anthony Smith in 1723. They were residents of Cape May, NewJersey The mystery of Mary Smith, her parentage, etc., may never besolved! The evidence or proof of who she was has eluded familyresearchers for decades. Author/Family Historian James Hook, whowrote the book "Smith, Grant, and Irons Families" in 1955 wrote:"Thomas Smith, born ca. 1672, died in Cape May County, New Jersey. Hewas married three times. His first wife was Alathare Dayton, ca.1700-1701. Alathare Dayton Smith died in 1714. Thomas was remarriedby 1723. His second wife was possibly Mary Allen Wells, subject ofthis sketch, or Mary Hand. That Thomas Smith's 2nd wife's name wasMary was so-stated by her son, Anthony Smith, when he recorded thebirth of himself, and the names of his wife and eleven children withthe Little Egg Harbor (New Jersey) Quaker monthly meeting, saying hewas the son of Thomas and "Mary" Smith." Most subsequent researchersbelieve, and have also stated, that "our Mary Smith" was the widow ofDaniel Wells, and the daughter of Jedediah Allen and Elizabeth HowlandAllen, of Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey. (Ref. GenealogyMagazine of New Jersey, Vol. 16, page 53.) It is a long and involvedexplanation as to how this assumption has been made.
FOR QUAKER RECORDS OF CAPE MAY SEE https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/70007
If only theQuaker records for Cape May, New Jersey would come to light, it mightsolve this mystery. They are not included in Hinshaw's QuakerRecords. Only the Smith and Allens in other Quaker Monthly Meetings ofNew Jersey are to be found. There is no New Jersey marriage recordfound on file to help clarify this mystery. But, at least for thisresearcher, I am satisfied to claim Mary Allen Wells as mother of our"Anthony Smith."
