(1629-1676) |
Esther Swift 2236
FamilySearch ID: MLTJ-S15. Find a Grave ID: 38364853. General Notes: Esther Swift was to become a Quaker along with her mother who was fined in October of 1660 for attending Quaker meetings. That her first husband, Ralph Allen, was a Quaker there is no evidence but Matthew, Bejamin, Joseph and William Allen were all fined in the same court proceedings as her mother was fined. As well, Ralph Allen was fined in June of 1659 for refusing to take the oad of fidelity. At about the time of her mother's death in 1663 she married second Henry Bull who was decidedly a Quaker. Henry, almost 20 years Esther's senior, had sailed to America in 1635 but went to Rhode Island almost immediately with his first wife who died in Newport in 1665. (Records are likely incorrect in this and his marriage to Esther.) In any case, Henry Bull returned to Sandwich to marry Esther; when she died in 1676 he remarried. Henry was an early Quaker and Colonial Governor of Rhode Island. Esther married Ralph Allen Jr., son of Ralph Allen Sr. and Unknown, in 1646 in Sandwich, Plymouth Colony.2232 (Ralph Allen Jr. was born in England, died about 1660 and was buried in Sandwich, Plymouth Colony.) Esther next married Gov. Henry Bull 14 Feb 1663/64 in Sandwich, Plymouth Colony.2236 (Gov. Henry Bull was born in 1610,2236 died in 1694 in Newport, Colony of Rhode Island 2236 and was buried in Newport, Colony of Rhode Island.) |
