William Talbot (V)
(1670-1714) |
William Talbot (V)
FamilySearch ID: G6YW-YTF. General Notes: "This notional William Talbot would have been the son of William Talbot (IV). I wonder if the line was continued instead by the John Talbot and his wife Judith who appear so often in the Broadmayne register, having for example a son William in 1669, who could be William Talbot (VI). There is also a Stephen Talbot gent who in Hutchins is described as the grandson of the William Talbot who leased the farm of Little Mayne, described in the West Knighton section: 'It was leased to several persons, at last to William, grandfather of Stephen Talbot, gent, deceased, paying a reserved sum to the schoolmaster. On Mr Talbot's death, 1734, the lease expiring, the whole profits came to the school.' I have found nothing else about this Stephen Talbot, except the idea that he was the man who wrecked the stone circle on the land there. There are pages missing from the West Knighton parish register covering the 1730s, so we don't have a record of his death. Presumably it is recorded in a document concerning the lease. We do have a reference to a Stephen Talbot of Little Mayne, yeoman, in the Quarter Sessions Book, 1693 (available online at ancestry.co.uk). William married Mary. |
