General Notes:
Richard Talbot, 1697-1775
Brother of William Talbot (VI). Born in the parish of West Knighton (where Little Mayne is) on July 24, 1697 (son of William) and baptised in Broadmayne on August 15, 1697 (son of William Talbot junior of Little Mayne and Mary his wife): 'Richardus filius Gulielmi Talbot Jun de Little Mayne et Maria uxoris Bapt Augusti 15'. William Talbot junior would have been William Talbot V and/or VI; William Talbot senior would have been William Talbot IV or V. One of these William Talbots would have been the 'beloved kinsman' of John Talbot, who died in 1684 (see above).
Richard moved to Lytchett Minister, where his first three sons, by his wife Mary, were baptised: 'A son', presumably William (1719), Richard (1722) and Stephen (1723). He then moved to Arne, where his fourth son James was baptised (1731). While a yeoman at Arne, he signed a bond of guardianship in 1743 for his nephew, William Talbot of Broadmayne, son of William Talbot, who had died intestate. His nephew was a minor but not necessarily a young child; the bond was a means, as I understand it, of ensuring the safe transition of property from one generation to the next. So we know there was something at stake.
Ref NoAD/DT/G/2/17 Title: Bond of Guardianship concerning William Talbot, "son of William Talbot of Broadwindsor (sic)[Broadmayne], deceased." Guardianship granted to Richard Talbot of Arne, yeoman [uncle of William Talbot, according to the endorsement on the document] Date: 19 Jan 1743
By the time of his death in 1775, Richard had moved to East Burton. In his will he names all four sons and his grandson Richard, son of Stephen (1749-1821, a gentleman according to his PCC will). Left a farm called Dunnings to William, whose children James and Mary he also mentions. 1693
