bullet  General Notes:

John. Mentioned in his father's will of 1616; not mentioned in the Visitation of 1623. This John has been identified as the man who went to Magdalen College, Oxford, matriculated June 22nd 1627, aged 18, of Mayne, Dorset, pleb. BA 19th February 1627; MA at St Alban Hall, 1630. Vicar at Milton Abbas, Dorset, 1640; vicar of Winterborne Clenston 1660. In Alumni Oxoniensis, this entry is cross-references with that of William (I).
This information is fleshed out in Dorset Notes and Queries vol. XVIII. John Talbot was one of the leaders of the anti-parliamentary clubmen in the skirmish at Hambledon; Cromwell referred to 'two vile ministers' who were taken prisoner. In 1646, Talbot was sequestered for delinquency by the Dorset Standing Committee, presumably for his 'club' business. He was ordered to leave the vicarage, but the Milton Abbas parish register notes that Talbot was vicar 1652-56. Vicar of Winterbourne Clenston from 1660; he died there and his will was proved in 1684 at Blandford.
He refers to his kinsman James Talbot; his sister Elizabeth Williams of Poole; his 'beloved kinsman William Talbot of Little Mayne', the last two being his executors. The witnesses are Honor Talbot (his niece I presume), Mary Roberts and Francis Milles. The reference to William Talbot shows the continuity of the Talbots there after the 1623 Visitation. I wonder if the James Talbot John refers to is the one who appears in the parish registers of Poole (Births - 1669: Richard Talbot son of James and Joan; 1670: Honour Talbot daughter of James and Joan; then 1688: Joan daughter of William [son of James and Joan?] and Elizabeth Talbot; 1692: Ann daughter of William and Elizabeth Talbot. The choice of names suggests a link, and the Talbots had links to Poole, both through Elizabeth Talbot and the Hennings. 1693
