General Notes:
Confusion over another brother, born later, named William.
There is another William Spicer, son of Robert & Sarah Spicer, baptised at Affpuddle on 18 May 1823, and buried on 4 Jul 1824 (age given as 1 year). Some speculation in the registers whether this child is son of a Charles & Elizabeth Spicer. (Charles and Elizabeth are crossed out in favor of Robert and Sarah.
Probably married Elizabeth Oram in Weymouth RD, Q2 1843. She was baptised (as Betty) 10 Nov 1811, daughter of William and Mary (nee Rose) Oram, at Lady St. Mary chapel. Parents were married 13 Mar 1806 at Wareham. William was specified as 'sojourner' (temporary resident).
William died Q1 1888 in Wareham RD aged 67.
1851 Census at Sutton Poyntz: William (29, head, M, miller, b. Tolpuddle), Elizabeth (39, wife, M, b. Wareham), Elizabeth A (7m, b. Sutton Poyntz), Emily W (2, b. Sutton Poyntz), Frank (7, scholar, b. Sutton Poyntz), William (5, scholar, b. Sutton Poyntz), plus 1 servant, Elizabeth Oram (15, b. Wareham). The servant was probably related to William's wife, e.g. neice. She was baptised 29 Dec 1836 at Lady St Mary, dau of John and Susan Oram, millwright.
William is listed as miller in the 1849 PO Directory and 1855 Kelly's Directory. The mill and the Mill House were used by Thomas Hardy in his novel "The Trumpet Major" as the setting for "Overcombe" and feature extensively in the novel. [Source: http://www.weymouth-dorset.co.uk/sutton-poyntz.html]
