Sarah Collins 339
FamilySearch ID: L4HC-YS9. General Notes: Her birthdate is recorded in the Collins genealogy, but she first makes her appearance in the record books as the wife of Ebenezer Mott in South Kingston, RI in 1744. There 'Ebenezer and Sarah Mott' witnessed the marriage of her brother John. Research Notes: Mott family tradition mentions her as a Quaker preacher of great reknown whose life was memorialized in a Quaker memorial to the 'Saints' from the Westerly RI Monthly Meeting, a published book of 1816/20. This is no doubt another Sarah Mott, for the published memorial (Memorials Concerning Several Ministers and Others, Deceased;... New York, 1814, reprinted London 1816)(Swarthmore collections) indicates a Sarah Mott who died 1783 at the age of 47. Events • Church: Certificate of Removal produced, 1 Jul 1746, Burlington, Burlington Co., NJ. 459 "Ebenezer Mott produced a Certificate of Removal from the Monthly Meeting of Egg Harbour for himself and Wife, which was read and received." • Church: enquired into intended marriages of two young women, 1753, Burlington, Burlington Co., NJ. 463 "Dant Wills and Moribah Lippincott laid their intentions of marriage before this meeting for approbation, the friends appointed to enquire into the young women's [?] are Sarah Mott and Susanna Atkinson." • Church: enquired into intended marriages of Mary Andrews, 1756, Burlington, Burlington Co., NJ. 464 "Abraham Bolton & Mary Andrews laid their intentions of Marriage...Amy Forster & Sarah Mott are desired to make the usual Enquiry..." Sarah married Ebenezer Mott, son of Edward Mott and Penelope Niles, before 15 Mar 1743/44. (Ebenezer Mott was born about 1714 in Rhode Island and died in Aug 1770 in Mount Holly, Burlington, New Jersey, United States 447.) Marriage Notes: Critical marriage to a number of lines above. The proof of this marriage that Sarah, the daughter of John (William) Collins, married Ebenezer Mott and then had John Mott is tenuous. |
