General Notes:
Maiden name not known in the Field Genealogy nor in McCracken nor in the Quaker marriage record. The 1902 Stevenson genealogy maintains that her father was Edward, the eldest daughter of Edward2(Thomas1) and Charity Stevenson. (p. 22). Others have suggested she is the daughter of Thomas Stevenson. McCracken reviews the supported views that her maiden name was Stephenson, either by Thomas or Edward, but neither one nor the other can be supported. (see page 206-8 for extensive examination of this difficult problem.) Susannah died in New Jersey: "Robert Field's widow Susannah was present in Newtown on the occasion of the marriage of her son Nathaniel 9 July 1701, but soon afterwards removed to Chesterfield, Burlington Co., N.J., where she resided with her daughter Susanna Marriott, until her own death 25 May 1702. The clerk of the Burlington Meeting, who duly recorded the death, knew that the deceased was the mother of the wife of Isaac Marriott, but he wrongly supposed that the said wife was named Joyce and he so recorded it. Joyce was, however, Isaac Marriott's first wife and had been dead since 18 Sept. 1695, when her death was recorded in Burlington in the same minutes. On 1 July 1702, Susannah Marriott signed administration bond in the estate of Susanna Feild, late of Long Island, but now of Chesterfield, and an inventory of the same date taken...Quietus was given to Isaac Marriott on 4 July 1705, who then presented his account of the estate as follows: funeral charges and debt due myself £8 8 8 to Ambrose Feild £41 8 0 to Jemima Feild [p. 249: Gimioe Field] £6 0 0 to Nath[aniel] Feld £2 2 0 to John & Daniel Stevenson £8 0 0 to my wife £38 8 0 for the adm. acct., etc. £0 12 0 " (McCracken, pgs 205 & 206. On page 208 he points out that "The fact that Robert Field died without probate and his wife without a full distribution to all her heirs makes it necessary to compile a list of the children from isolated data without benefit of a document giving the full list of names...the sketch in Pierce (I:107) is quite unsatisfactory.") 2080,2081
