General Notes:
183. BENJAMIN FIELD (Robert, Robert, William, Christopher, John, Christopher, John. John, Richard, Thomas, Adam, Richard, Roger). b. Newtown L.I. "Benjamin Field was born in Newtown, L.I.; m. May 29, 1692, Experience Allen. Benjamin Field...went to Shrewsbury, and later, about 1690, to Chesterfield, N.J. Tradition has it that he was accompanied by Peter Harvey and Lawrence Miller, and all journed through the province with their families carrying their effects in a wheelbarrow. This may have been true of the others, but not of Mr. Field, for he was not married until 1692. They all settled close together near the site of the present city of Bordentown. Field was possessed of some means, was a good business man and was much respected and esteemed by the Friends. In 1697-98 he was appointed with Francis Davenport to contract with the builders for the building of a stable at Crosswick's Meeting House. He was frequently appointed on other buisiness communittees. Res., Flushing, L.I., and Shrewsbury and Chesterfield, N.J."
Following that in The Field Genealogy is a rather long discource on the connection between the Flushing Fields and the New Jersey Fields in which the author, Osgood Field, Esq., of London finds little certain connection yet still argues that such was the case that Benjamin moved to New Jersey giving credible circumstancial evidence as well as certain old Bible records Thing is, he never saw the wills of Benjamin and Experience which would have enlightened him a good deal.
Ambrose Field: some have it that Benjamin and Experience had a son Ambrose, but with little evidence and I believe he is confused with Benjamin's brother Ambrose. There is no Ambrose, son of Benjamin and Experience, in the Chesterfield MM records of the family, nor is he mentioned in Benjamin or Experience's wills. He has been deleted from this database. 1546,1591
