He used The Thurston Genealogies and Revolutionary Rolls.Both he and his brother Cyrus Brooks Thurston made applications at the same time and appear in the book of applications together.

Charles married Ida Flora Barton 2 Jul 1872 in Blue Earth County, MN ²⁷⁹.^,280 (Ida Flora Barton was born 23 Jun 1854 in Vermont ²⁸⁷ and died 23 Aug 1937 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California ²⁸¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

They evidently moved to California between 1920 and 1922 when Charles died. Ida appears on the 1930 census as a widow and Head of Household, although she is living next door to Walter and Violet Petersen, age 41 and 37 and their children Royal Thurston (17) and Lorraine Thurston (18). Evidently Violet was married to a Thurston and the children were hers before she married Walter Peterson.All a bit of a mystery because the census gives 19 for Violet's age at first marriage.
