bullet  General Notes:

1656: Dorchester 'fence viewer' 27 Feb 1657 (Boston Records): "Edward Blake is Admitted an Inhabitant, & John Blake is heerby bound in the sum of twenty pound sterll, to save the town from any charge, either from the said Edward or his family. And this attested by his hand. John Blake" 1662: chosen by the town a 'culler of staves' 18 April 1662: named executor of the estate of Jane Pope, mother-in-law. 4 June 1665: united with the Second Church in Boston. 1668: He and John Sweate were reported to the selectmen as having 'noe chimney in their Coops Shops.' This, perhaps, caused him his business, for in 1669: among those "approved to sell beere & kepe houses of publique entertainment," and again in 1670 "at the south end of the town." 1672: settled in Milton, where he and his brother William were among the founders of the church in 1678. The Rev. Peter Thacher's journal contains many references to them. 21 Feb. 1678: dismissed of the Second Church 1684: he sold "his now dwelling house" in Milton to Robert Babcock. 1688: Named in his brother John's will. Will dated August 31, 1692 and the inventory of his estate showed valuation of £176. 14. 0. Bequests were made to his sons Jonathan and Solomon, and his five daughters, Mary Pitcher, Sarah Talley, Jane Kilton, Susanna Whales and Abigail Blake. p34 758

bullet  Research Notes:

The record of his baptism not found by BLAKE, and he states that Edward is 'probably' the youngest son of William Blake. While all his older brothers and sisters baptisms are clearly recorded in England between 1618 and 1624, and as his is absent, it would seem to indicate that he was either born in America, in transit, or that the family's problems with the Church may have had something to do with the lack of baptism date. In the two pages of biography in BLAKE, there is no clear documentation that he is either the son of William or a brother of the other children. The presumptive evidence is compelling, however. There are a number of references in the records with him appearing with John, James or William the younger, and William Blake the elder's will names FIVE children in addition to his wife.
