Daniel Bradley

  • Born: 8 May 1636, Bingley, Yorkshire, England 730
  • Died: Bef 4 Jan 1656/57, New Haven, Connecticut 730

bullet  General Notes:

7 Feb 1657: Took the oath of Fidelity.

Died without a will and unmarried. It is his lack of a will, and the insuing proceedings before the General Court that give insight as to the makeup of this family. It took several years to clear the matter up, but at Court on the 2nd of November, 1658, William Bradley (step-brother) and John Allen (Brother-in-law, h/o Ellen Bradley) "acquainted the Court that they had endeavoured to finde out the estate of their Brother Daniell Bradly, deceased, as also the debts dew from him..." p 364

After several appearances the matter was cleared up at the Court held May 30, 1660. The record of that Court is mysteriously absent from the Ancient Town Record volume, but the Order of that court is referred to at the Court of March 5th, 1661 and by Leonard Bradley:

1. From Bradley, p39: "At a Court, held May 30, 1660, the estate of Daniel Bradley was ordered to be divided between his mother (Elizabeth) and his brothers, Joshua, Nathan, Stephen and William and his sister, Ellen (wife of John Allen), "William, being a brother by the father's side," to receive only half a share."

2. From the Court Records, March 5, 1660/1 p471: "Will Bradly and John Allen p'sented an account of their Trust concerning the disposall of the estate of Daniel Bradly, deceased, whereby it appeared that out of the estate of 44. 10. 9* (unto which a sithe after the Inventory was p'sented found and sould for 0. 6. 8 which makes the estate 44. 17. 5) they had paid of debts due from the estate 32. 10. 6 unto which being added 20 shillings allowed to them for their care & paines in the businesse, & 6 shillings the Secretarys fees, all which amounts to 33. 16. 06, which being deducted the estate remaines 11. 00. 06, which according to the Order of the General Court in May last is thus to be divided: to widdow Bradly** 2. 0. 2, to Josua Bradly 2. 0. 2, to Nathan Bradely 2. 0. 2, to the wife of John Allen 2. 0. 2, to Stephen Bradely 2. 0. 2, to William Bradly 1. 0. 1, prouided that what shall be added to the estate by a debt due from Richard Fellowes not yet recovered..."
