From contributor Charles H. Clackett (#47202913): Colonel Jacob Griffin reportedly was the son of Joshua Griffin and Elizabeth Hopper.
Jacob Griffin was born in 1730 and became a captain in the Rombout Dutchess County Militia at the onset of the Revolutionary War. The unit was under the command of Col. Abraham Brinckerhoff.
In July 1775, Griffin circulated a petition that was signed by locals who declared their support to the Committee of Independence. Griffin collected 502 signatures on the document.
Col. Griffin became a New York state assemblyman from Dutchess County, from 1786 to 1789.
