Is mentioned in his father's will in 1854 as ".... my son James Pitt at present supposed to be residing in some part of America ....."
There is a James Pitt, age 50, on the 1855 NY State census of Angelica, Allegany that were transcribed. Same place, age 64 in the 1870 census. Ages vary by plus/minus two or three years in the censuses but he appears in the same place from 1855 to 1870, insane in the poor house.
