William Potter
- Born: Abt 1608
- Marriage (1): Frances about 1634 in England 915
- Died: Jun 1662 about age 54 916
General Notes:
5 April 1659: Court held at New Haven (p399) - presented the will of his mother, Hannah Beacher. (See the notes on her for quote from this source.)
Conflict between LDS (1684) and Jacobus (1662) as to the deathdate, but 1662 would be correct.
Shepard states "Savage says of Watertown, Mass., probably came in the Abigal from London, in 1635, aged 27, with wife Frances, aged 26, and child Joseph, aged twenty weeks." The Abigal left London in May of 1635 according to Shepard. It, in fact, left Plymouth about August 1 and arrived in Boston October 6, 1635. (Great Migration Newsletter, Vol. 7, No.4 and "Ships" a website of passenger lists that lists the Abigail:
"1635 ABIGAIL of London,
Richard Hackwell, Master. She listed passengers for New England from June 4 until July 24, and sailed from Plymouth, as her last port of departure, about
August 1, with two hundred and twenty persons aboard and many cattle. She arrived at Boston about October 8, infected with smallpox. Among those coming in this ship, but not listed, were Sir Henry Vane, son and heir of Sir Henry Vane, Comptroller of the King's Household, traveling incognito; the Reverend Hugh Peter, pastor of the English Church at Rotterdam, and the Reverend John Wilson, who was returning to Boston, with his wife, her first appearance in New England." (http://listserv.northwest.com/~haight/Ships.htm#1635)
William Potter, husbandman, Watertown, 27, Frances, 26, Joseph, 1/2 (Interestingly enough, most all of the passengers are listed according to their home in England, there is, however, no Watertown in England.) 731,915

William married Frances about 1634 in England.915 (Frances was born about 1609 in England 915 and died after 1662 in New Haven, Connecticut 850,915.)
Marriage Notes:
See note. Conflict with the LDS date of marriage (Aug. 1636) and birth of first child, Joseph (Nov. 1636). Both are no doubt wrong. Jacobus has no date for marriage, but c1635 for birth of Joseph. Shepard states that "Savage says of Watertown, Mass., probably came in the Abigal from London, in 1635, aged 27, with wife Francis, aged 26, and child Joseph, aged twenty weeks." The Abigal sailed in May of 1635. January or February of 1635 would seem reasonable for Joseph's birthdate. Birth dates of the children are approximate and based on Jacobus. Hope was baptised in the First Congregational Society in October of 1641 following the baptisms in August of her sisters, Mary and Sarah. 915
