Once again the Ancestral File of the LDS is quite confusing, but the respected research of Jacobus is the one followed here. ²⁰⁹

  Research Notes:

The Ancestral File is totally confused with all the editions to this line, but in reviewing it, it seems likely that John Benham, Sr.'s wife was Margery Alcock and I have altered this file accordingly. John Benham Jr.'s file is also confused but I have left in apparently duplicate children as the dates are different and they could have been second children of the same name - Nathaniel and Ebenezer. Wives have been added per the ancestral file, he apparently having at least two wives, possibly three.

John married Sarah Wilson 8 Feb 1653/54.

John next married Mercey Smith, daughter of George Smith and Sarah, 3 Mar 1668/69 in New Haven, Connecticut. (Mercey Smith was born 22 Feb 1644/45 in New Haven, Connecticut, christened 22 Feb 1644/45 in New Haven, Connecticut and died after 1679.)
