Jan Jacobsen Burhans
(Abt 1650-1708) |
Jan Jacobsen Burhans
Find a Grave ID: 148242157. General Notes: The Burhans Genealogy says that Jan arrived in America on April 16, 1663 aboard the ship Bonte Koe (Spotted Cow), evidently with a brother Barent Burhans, although other records show that the ship sailed from Amsterdam on that date with Jan Bergen captain. Colonial Manuscripts in Albany show a debt for Barent Burhans of 39 florins for passage and board on the Bonte Koe arriving 16 April 1663. The account was never settled and his name never appears on any records suggesting that he died in route or shortly after. Jan Burhans paid his account for passage on the Bonte Koe 17 October 1663. Jan married Helena Traphagen, daughter of Willem Jansen Traphagen and Jannetje Claesen Groevnis, in 1665-1675 in Kingston, Ulster Co., NY. (Helena Traphagen was born about 1650 in Amsterdam, Holland and died in May 1732 in Brabant, Ultster Co., NY.) |
