bullet  General Notes:

Her father has not been found, although there is record of extensive Wager family from Germany in the Troy, Brunswick area of New York State and she is no doubt related to this family. Searches through several of the genealogies of this Wagar Family microfilmed by the LDS FHL have not revealed her. The generations in those genealogies are preceeding her birthdate.

Two of the children of Wesley Mott stated that it was said she was of that group of German people in America called "Pennsylvania Dutch." It is known that she could speak German; that German was spoken in her home, and that there was among her belongings a German prayerbook. It is known that she was religious and fond of music, which she said was "good for the soul." Her interest in music, her possession of a voice of unusual strength and carrying power carried over to her daughter Martha.

There is not much in the annals of family tradition about this woman other than she could sing very well and that she spoke fluent German, evidently of a strong German background. The LDS has several files on German families that settled at Brunswick, NY, and the name is prominent in some of the very early history of that area, but as of yet I've not found out who her father was. Her gravestone is next to her husband's in a little graveyard in Winchester.

There is in my archives a letter addressed to "Sister Mary" from "Sister Anna" dated July, 1868 that has some clues. (Needs transcribing October, 2019.) 339

bullet  Research Notes:

1790 Census of Pitts Town, Albany County shows Leonard Wager with 2 males over 16, 4 males under 16 and 5 females. (Roll M637-6)
Also Thomas Wager and Nicolas Wager in Rensselaerwick Township (same roll number) Images Online Ancestry.com
Thomas 3-4-3
Nicholas shows 4-2-2
Interestingly Caenradt Hamm appears just below with 3-2-3
Many Wagers in Troy in the 1800 census - as the census images and indexes come online (Ancestry.com), the censuses for the early 1800's may give some clues. There has been finding (online) of their marriage record, although if that were ever found it might give a clue as to her father.
See research in the "Wager Research Folder"

Her death certificate should be on file at the Winnebago County Courthouse. It is doubtful that that would give her father's name, but it should be checked out at some time.

Possibly d/o Eberhard Wagar (b. 1774 Dutchess Co., NY; d. 1848 Brunswick, Rensselaer, NY):

There are a number of Family Trees that have Eberhard but no children.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

There are a number of Marriages of Wagers at the Gilead Luthern Church in Brunswick but none for Mayhew or Mary. One page says that the original records for 1821 are missing. Other church records and clues are in Albany at the Manuscripts & History Section NYSL:
