According to the published genealogies of Atwater and Alling, Caleb FIRST married Lydia Benham, she died a year and a half after the marriage, and he SECOND married Abigail BRADLEY, by whom he had all of his 12 children. The Atwater and Alling genealogies, which by the entries, appear to draw one from the other, are evidently in error and are correctly refuted by Donald Lines Jacobus in his Ancient Families of New Haven. 1 2 3 4

• Ear Mark: Ear mark recorded, 28 Jun 1751, Dutchess Co., NY. 5 Caleb Atwater Ear mark is a Crop in the Right Ear & slit in the Left Ear and a half peny under the same Ear recorded June the 28th Day 1751 by me Isaac Germond, Clerk. The above Mark Transferred to Joseph Bently by Wim Doughty Town Calark Apeil ye 9th 1766.
Caleb married Lydia BENHAM, daughter of Nathan BENHAM and Sarah BEECHER, on 6 Apr 1727 in New Haven, Connecticut. (Lydia BENHAM was born in 1708 in New Haven, Connecticut 6 and died after 1756.)

Lundell, Kay, Triumphant Banners - Supplement One: The Ancestry of Nelson Higgins (Ogden, Utah: Kay Lundell, c1990, [88] pages, LDS FHL Microfilm #1597612). Supplement One traces the ancestry of Mary Daggett, the mother of Nelson Higgins (1806-1890). Nelson was the subject of Kay Lundell's earlier work, "Triumphant Banners".
The supplement's primary focus is on Mary's parents, Mayhew Daggett and Esther Atwater and includes their biographies as well as about 60 family group sheets tracing the Daggett and Atwater lines. The parentage of Mayhew Daggett runs counter to the 1894 genealogy of Samuel and George Daggett and hence to many of the genealogies submitted to the LDS and to online databases. See the notes on Mayhew Daggett (born 1730) for additional clarification. Ms. Lundell's sources on the family group sheet for Mayhew, his marriage and children are appended as detail in this database.
