bullet  General Notes:

4 April 1654 took oath of allegiance 17 March, 1658: admitted a freeman.

Will dated 6 May 1689 (New Haven Probate Records, Book 2, p 99, March 26, 1691): Will names oldest son John Allin, son Samuel, grandchildren Samuel and Elizabeth Hobson, daughter Hannah Scranton, daughter Mary Guttowage, grandchildren Ebenezer and Mary Wilcocks, daughter Sarah; witnessed by Joseph Moss and Abraham Bradley.

Several genealogies exist that include John Alling, but whether he was the brother of Roger Alling, a prominent New Haven resident, is still in question, disputed by a published genealogy of the Allen family,, and not substanciated by Jacobus, who says he was 'perhaps' the son of Richard of Kempston. The LDS Ancenstral File has him as the brother and son of James Allen of Kempston, England, whose will was proved in 1657.

Savage, Page 41:

bullet  Research Notes:

he LDS file indicates that John Alling was the brother of Roger and the son of James of Kempston. According to the published genealogy by George Allen in 1899, this is highly unlikely for various reasons:

1. The will of James of Kempston, proved 1657 names six children:
1. Roger, now living in New England, 30 pounds.
2. Joana, now living in New England, 10 pounds.
3. William, living in England, money.
4. Martha, married and living in England, money and household goods.
5. Mary, to children living in England, money.
6. John, executor, land, house and all other goods, "the said John Allen to have and and to hold to him and to his heirs forever" p10(will quoted in full).

2. George Allen argues that John, who had been married in New Haven to Ellen Bradley 4 or 5 years earlier to this will, and remained there the rest of his live, was not John the executor of James Allen's will and not his son.

6/15/1995: But, since the LDS file indicates other children than were on the will, as well as dates that George Allen does not provide (he evidently did not do a great deal of English research), I'm leaving John as the son of James for the time being.
