She was the daughter of the Rev. Adam Blackman, of Stratford, CT, who had been a minister in Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

Mary married Joshua Atwater, son of John Atwater and Susan Narsin, 6 May 1651. (Joshua Atwater was born in 1611 in Lenham, Kent, England, christened 2 Jun 1611 in Lenham, Kent, England, died 16 May 1676 in Boston, Mass. and was buried 18 May 1676.)
