bullet  General Notes:

William Swift was listed in the 1643 Sandwich section of men able to bear arms.* His inventory included two swords and two muskets in the year of his death. His wife evidently became a Quaker at least by 1660 when she was among 25 men and women fined for attending Quaker meetings.

*Early Quakerism did not necessarily mean pacifism. They were Puritans first and, in the case of William, became Quaker at a later date.
