bullet  General Notes:

After graduating from Roosevelt grade school and Neenah High school in 1930 Bob attended Lawrence University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the national honorary fraternity. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and editor-in-chief of the Lawrentian, the student newspaper. He worked as a "soda jerk' at Voght's Drug Store in downtown Appleton as well. Bob graduated in 1938 and immediately following his wedding in September of that year he and his bride moved to New York City where he earned a Masters Degree in Columbia University's College of Journalism.

Returning to the Fox River Valley following that he worked first in Kimberly-Clark's Personnel Department and then in Public Relations. Among his duties there he was Editor of "Cooperation," an in-house company magazine, and as PR manager a big part of his job involved putting together Kimberly-Clark's annual report and quarterly financial reporting documents. He worked for Kimberly-Clark from 1939 until his retirement in 1975.

He was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Menasha having been introduced to the Episcopal Church by his sister Ruth and her husband, the Rev. William Spicer. He's reputed to have quipped after the first service he attended that "if I'd have known how much standing, kneeling and sitting there was going to be I'd have worn just a tee-shirt." His dry humor was legendary.

During World War II he served from 1944 to 1946 in the Adjutant General Corps, stationed in Atlanta, Georgia at Fort McPherson, which was one of 19 major Army Personnel Centers. He worked part time in a 7-Up bottling plant at night to be able to afford to live off base on Niskey Lake in East Point, Georgia. About five miles from downtown Atlanta and five miles from Ft. McPherson. His love of lakes and forests was lifelong; he bought property on Jungle Lake in Wisconsin where his sons would scatter his ashes following his death in 1998.
(Some of this from biographical information from his son Tom Mott in January of 2017. Document attached to this file.)
