bullet  General Notes:

Bob McPherson's 8th great-grandfather. Also the 8th great-grandfather of his wife, Sara Spicer McPherson and her brothers. In which case they are 9th cousins.
Family search attributes to Richard and Susanna nine children. I find no evidence for the births of three of them: Samuel (1650), Richard Charles (1658 - FS has him born in England!?), and Mary (1661 whose source is to birth by Jonathan)
I have deleted all three from this database. Also, the six children left conform to the children listed in his FaG memorial.

A common ancestor

Richard is a common ancestor of both Bob McPherson, his wife Sara Spicer and her brothers. He is an 8th great-grandfather to both. Bob descends from Richard's son Nathaniel, the Spicers from Nathaniel's brother Jonathan who took the name "Dunham" when he moved to New Jersey. Jonathan is also the 8th great-grandfather of 44th U.S. President Barack Obama.
Born in England, he was an admitted inhabitant in Salem, Mass in 1637. In 1638, he took the Freeman's oath in Newbury, Mass. By 1639, he was a proprietor in Salisbury, Mass and a Selectman in 1650. In 1653 he is a proprietor in Haverhill. Mass. Said to have died at 102 years of age but his burial place is unknown. There is more about his children and his homestead at his Find-a-Grave memorial.
