bullet  General Notes:

Not satisfied with any parents. FS has parents Thomas Powell and Prisiclla Whitson who married in New Haven in 1637 but I suspect that many have confused him with Captain Thomas Powell and they may be two different people.
__________

(From https://www.genealogy.com/ftm/s/e/e/Sylvia-See-AB/FILE/0075page.html):

Capt. Thomas Powell was engaged in the sack and rum trade. On one of his trips from the Barbadoes, West Indies, to New York and Halifax in 1653, he stopped at Huntington Harbor, Long Island, to visit his friend, Capt. Thomas Matthews (formerly of London), who was running a boat between Huntington and Flushing, N. Y., carrying goods.

Capt. Thomas Matthews was also a "Cordwainer" (shoemaker); it ispresumed that Capt. Thomas Powell's wife had died, so he apprenticed his son,Thomas (who was at the time 12 years of age), to Capt. Thomas Matthews.

THIS BOY, THOMAS POWELL, IS THE PROGENITOR OF ALL THE LONG ISLAND POWELLS; MOST ALL OF THE POWELLS IN NEW YORK STATE; MANY OF THE POWELLS IN NEW JERSEY,PENNSYLVANIA, MARYLAND AND OTHER STATES.

To simplify matters we here change this boy, Thomas Powell, number in descent from 6 to 1. 1311
