bullet  General Notes:

Death certificate states Robert died of a liver complaint aged 67 years. His wife Sarah Spicer was the informant. It does not specify his abode other than the "parish of Owermoigne". MI in Owermoigne churchyard:

Headstone inscription: "Sacred to the memory of ROBERT SPICER who departed this life July 31st 1839 aged 68 years
I want no flattering poet's verse
My deeds of virtue to rehearse
For all the good that I have done
Give thanks to God in Christ his Son.

Parish Register gives his age as 66. 56

bullet  Events

• Baptism, 1772. Baptism is also recorded in the register of West Knighton in a very degraded register: "?? 11 Bap. Robt Talbot Bastard."

• Baptism: base born, 11 Oct 1772, Broadmayne, Dorset, England.

• Named in will, 22 Mar 1777, Broadmayne, Dorset, England. £50 to be paid upon attaining the age of 21.

• Military: Militia List, 1796, Broadmayne, Dorset, England. 1060 Appears on list of all persons that is liberl to serve in the militia from the age of 18 to 45 in the Parish of Broad Main in the hundred of George.
(William Talbot is Tythingman - Samuel Samways also on the list.)

• Church: On the Vestry of St. Laurences, 1823-1834, Affpuddle, Dorset, England. 1061 Various times appears with Robert Besant, Richard Brine and Charles Besant. See registers for additional names.

• Occupied Land: Farmer - Waddock Farm, 1834, Affpuddle, Dorset, England. 1062 The newspaper entry of 1834 is curious in that the tithe map registers of Owermoigne, which includes the land where Waddock Farm is named in the 1901 survey map, has no land or homestead identified as "Waddock Farm." The land around where Waddock Farm is, however, owned by John Cree who owned the West Farm in Owermoigne, some 3.5 miles south, which Robert occupied per the tithe maps.
Of course it is quite possible that in the 5-6 years between the 1834 entry in the newspaper and the tithe maps he had given up Waddock Farm, which appears now to be a watercress farm.

• Cause of Death: Died of a "liver complaint," 1839, Owermoigne, Dorset, England. 56 Per the death certificate.

• Occupied Land: West Farm, 1839, Owermoigne, Dorset, England. 371 acres owned by John Cree, Esq. The Tithe map was certified in 1841 after Robert died but still has his name on the books. The map, quantities and rent charges were likely made about the time Robert died. Also ikely his son John continued to farm the land for several years after his father died since John is on the 1841 census of Owermoigne but not in 1851.
The homestead, plan number 83a on the tithe maps, sits right in the middle of Owermoigne across the parish church of St. Michael and appears to be still there by Google maps street view. An overlay based on the 1901 survey map at National Library of Scotland clearly shows the location of West Farm and several other fields and locations specified on the tithe map of 1838-41.

• Burial, 5 Aug 1839, Owermoigne, Dorset, England. 1063 Age 66 per the parish register. Age 68 per the inscription. St. Michaels Churchard.

• Marriage, 16 Aug 1840, Norwich, Norfolk, England. 56,1064

• Marriage, 2 May 1843, Owermoigne, Dorset, England. 1065,1066

Robert's Parentage

Robert's parentage is derived from two primary sources, the will of his grandfather William Talbot, his baptism record, and the marriage record of Mary Talbot and Walter Spicer. Whether Walter is his biological father is unknown, but given the will of William Talbot, one might assume, rightly or wrongly, that he was.
