Robert, like his brothers, was a gamekeeper in Sussex. He moved from Eastbourne to Woolavington (1801), to Verdley (1808), and then to Withyham (1838). [Sussex Record Society, Vol LI, Record of Duputations of Gamekeepers] (Gale)

The Dorset Militia Ballot List has Robert as a Labourer in Turners Puddle in 1798, with a wife and two children, his height was five feet and seven inches. He was Crossed Out, ie excluded from being balloted and having to serve in the Militia. (Hillier) ^56,1028
